Training workshop on "Legal Aspects and Operating Mechanism of Agricultural Contracts”

In four days from 27th to 30th September 2016, at the Army hotel, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) held a training seminar on "Legal Aspects and Operating Mechanism of Agricultural Contracts", this workshop is one of a series of three national conferences to be held in Vietnam, Ethiopia and Guatemala to popularize the publication Guides of the law on contract farming by the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), FAO and IFAD collaboratedly released.

The workshop was guided, and supported by Dr. Carlos A. da Silva - expert on Agricultural Contract, a professor of economics and business management of Agriculture, Federal University of Vicosa, Brazil and Dr. Galvez Eva Nogales - Economist, FAO Economic Division of Agricultural Development, Rome. With the participation of representatives of the Institute of Agricultural Policy and Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD), Vietnam Farmers Association, the Office of the National Coordinator Program on building NTM, officials on the project management team of provinces funded by IFAD, SNV Vietnam, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lao Cai province, Tuyen Quang,.... in order to appraise the appropriateness and usefulness of the document that has been developed from legislation publications guide to give to farmers and policy makers advices on the legal aspects of agriculture contract.

Participated in the workshop, MA Thai Van Tinh - Representing Centre on Agricultural Policy (CAP) presented the Contract Agricultural Policy in Vietnam to provide workshop participants overall regarding the development of contract farming in Vietnam, the legal framework and policies related to agriculture contracts in Vietnam and the specific policies to encourage agricultural development in contract in Vietnam.

Within the framework of this training workshop, CAP has organized a field study visit related to content in class at Tan Cuong Company Limited - Truc Hung Commune, Truc Ninh, Nam Dinh, is the typical pattern in the implementation of contract farming through land accumulation, production under large fields, mechanization and technology investments in the production of seed thereof along the value chain in the Red river delta region.

Training workshops have provided valuable knowledge about agriculture contracts include: basic concepts, legal aspects of contract farming, planning and setting the contracting activity, national policy on contract farming, management of risk occurs when contractual disputes through actual situation in Vietnam and some countries in the world.
